Start at the outside edge of one arm and follow it down to the seat. Measure across the seat, then up and over the opposite arm. Keep the tape against the sofa, following its shape.

What a find this sofa cover is! The light blue colour is just right, not too bright, and it fits like a dream on my three-seater.
